EFTBHS is an open access, peer-reviewed journal published by the College of Health Sciences, Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. Our mission is to connect discoveries in molecular and laboratory sciences to clinical practice and population health outcomes advancing translational research that directly improves lives.

The journal publishes original research, reviews, and policy analyses that explore how science translates into better diagnostics, therapies, and health systems. Peer reviewers ensure that every published study meets high standards of quality, clarity, and ethical conduct.

Reviewer Roles and Scope

Reviewers at EFTBHS are selected based on their expertise, qualifications, and track record of scholarly contribution. Depending on interest and experience, reviewers may also be invited to serve in specialized roles:

Eligibility and Expertise

Prospective reviewers should possess relevant academic or professional credentials and demonstrate integrity and reliability in scholarly evaluation. Typical eligibility includes:

  • Advanced training (M.Sc., Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in biomedical, clinical, or population health sciences.
  • At least one peer-reviewed publication or equivalent research experience.
  • Familiarity with international reporting and transparency standards (CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE, ARRIVE, CARE).
  • Commitment to double-blind peer review and adherence to ethical and equity principles in scholarly communication.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and provide clear, evidence-based, and constructive feedback.

Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Review assigned manuscripts promptly, typically within 14–21 days of invitation.
  • Provide an impartial and balanced assessment, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses.
  • Evaluate clarity, validity, reproducibility, and ethical compliance.
  • Submit detailed, professional comments suitable for both authors and editors.
  • Declare any conflicts of interest and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.

Reviewer Recognition and Benefits

Term and Workload

Reviewer appointments are ongoing and voluntary, with flexibility to accept or decline invitations based on availability. We generally expect reviewers to handle 2–4 manuscripts per year. Time commitment per review averages 2–3 hours depending on manuscript complexity.

EFTBHS aims to complete first editorial decisions within 3–6 weeks. Reviewers play a key role in maintaining that efficiency.

  • Brief cover note expressing interest and describing your research expertise.
  • Curriculum vitae with recent publications or professional highlights.
  • ORCID iD and institutional affiliation.
  • 2–5 keywords representing your areas of expertise.
  • Statement on availability and potential conflicts of interest.

Ethics, Conflicts, and Privacy

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest relevant to assigned manuscripts (financial, institutional, or personal).
  • Maintain reviewer and author anonymity and confidentiality throughout the process.
  • Adhere to the COPE Code of Conduct and journal policies on research integrity.
  • Respect data privacy and ensure that all information is used solely for editorial purposes.
  • Report suspected plagiarism, duplication, or data manipulation to the editor immediately.
